What IS survival?
Ask a dozen people and you get a dozen answers, so I digging of my own to get to the bottom of this
Survival…. state or fact of continuing to live or exist, typically in spite of an accident, ordeal, or difficult circumstances
What does it mean to live?
Living… a constant state of being alive
The common factor in both definitions is the word alive, “living”… LIFE!
Surviving cancer, that is a true survival story~
Those who “survive” are warriors for good reason!
125 years ago , staying alive during a drought or hard winter was simply called life
Life has evolved and has become very easy for us now
If you did not milk the cow in the morning, you did not drink milk, have biscuits or bread in the evening and have butter to spread atop!
A simple chore such as milking the cow was “needed” to assure all were fed and comfortable during that time period
… this was simply called living
One did not survive the night, only because he had extra berry preserves at hand!
That was not survival or the critical survival skills ol’ Webster was relating to-
Those were living skills, used to sustain a comfortable lifestyle in hard times
Raising livestock, tending to and collecting their gifts are life skills
Learning how to take these offerings and utilize them for our benefit and try to maintain these relationships of livestock and animals are yet more examples of living skills!
Survival can describe many things…..
I am fast realizing it is not what Merriam Webster declares!
I believe the word “survival” and its various meanings, when used for teaching real life giving “skills” is misleading
Survival and the baseline for teaching how to stay alive should be very easy…
Do whatever you can-
When you need to-
By whatever means necessary-to keep yourself alive!
Below are my findings and what I’m finding to be true~
- Survival is LIFE
- Survival is LIVING
- Survival is CONTINUING TO LIVE BY SHARING WHAT IT TAKES TO LIVE A GOOD LIFE
Let’s learn together what Living is truly meant to be, as we Survive these modern days ahead!
