I like to add a dark alcohol based based stain to my Osage self bows when the build is near completed, this trick does a few things~
- It makes the early growth rings much darker so I can see them much clearer
- The stain is alcohol based so it dries very quickly and will not add much moisture to the bow if any
- The stain helps lift any slivers of wood above the the surface of the bow, making the end product smooth as glass with a fine furniture sheen if that is your intended outcome
